The Evelyn

Nordstrom Rack in Manhattan

Nordstrom Inc. will be opening a Nordstrom Rack in Manhattan. Located at 855 6th Avenue (at the Durst Organization, close to Herald Square), this will be relatively close by to Shimmie Horn’s The Evelyn hotel, set in Manhattan’s NoMad neighborhood. This marks the second Nordstrom store that will be in Manhattan.

According to Durst Organization President Jonathan Durst:

“We are proud to welcome Nordstrom Rack to 855 Sixth Avenue. With 375 rental units, 150,000 square feet of office space and now 46,500 square feet of retail, the building is a perfect reflection of the diversity, energy and connectivity of the NoMad neighborhood. We look forward to many years of success with Nordstrom Rack at 855.”

The off-price retail division of Nordstrom Inc. offers customers a savings of between 30 and 70% from the standard Nordstrom stores.

See ‘The Nomad’ when in Nomad!

For those who happen to be visiting one of Shimmie Horn’s luxurious hotels – like The Evelyn (located in Nomad, Manhattan) or the Tribeca Grand Hotel, it could be a good time to take in a show that is appropriate for the area.

“The Nomad” is currently showing at Manhattan’s Flea Theater (located in the TriBeCa neighborhood on 41 White Street) and has to date received rave reviews.

The musical – with book and lyrics and Erin Courtney and Elizabeth Swados – is not for the slow-paced. The production is quite quick and has a lot going on. It combines both musical theater tradition and Middle Eastern sounds, telling the tale of Isabelle Eberhardt, a romantic and Swiss writer who meets her premature death before reaching the age of 30.

Check it out. It’s definitely something different.

Sweetgreen Opening in Soho

SCG Retail just signed a lease for Sweetgreen to open in Soho, on Kenmare Street. Not far from The Evelyn, Shimmie Horn’s hotel in the Manhattan NoMad area, SCG Retail broker David Firestein pointed out that the neighborhood is “perfect for Sweetgreen’s farm-to-table approach to convenient food. Kenmare is a great location because it’s strategically positioned to tap into the tourist flow, the daytime office crowd, and the residents who are hungry night or day.”

Fast food has traditionally been extremely unhealthy fare. Now though, Sweetgreen has given fast food a different rep. When the company was launched back in 2007 it was through the three founders’ “locally sourced and organic ingredient” approach. The company is committed to “community and sustainability.”

In addition, the company offers local NYC schools educational programs in schools on the importance of eating healthy, wellness, etc. SCG Retail decided on the Kenmare Street location because of the food rejuvenation occurring in the area, with places like: Taim, Rubirosa, Parm, la Esquina, Osteria Morini.
